Three-minute movies on-the-go
By Lee Hyo-won
Coming to Seoul is a film festival showcasing works in sync with the fast, fluid and fleeting consumption patterns of the day ― super-short films that run only three minutes, but with no less cinematic expression.
The 2nd Seoul International Extreme Short Image & Film Festival will run from Friday through Nov. 11, not only in film theaters across the city but also on-the-go ― through web, mobile and even metro services.
The first cinema event of its kind, the festival aims to present experimental projects that can be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere. The works may be short but the range is eclectic ― this year’s lineup includes 394 films from 30 countries, including those that were shown at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in France as well as at the Short Shorts Film Festival in Japan.
Not to be missed is the 3D Extreme Short section, which will introduce some of the latest homegrown projects and those from overseas, most notably the prizewinning piece from Your Big Break, an international competition organized by Tourism New Zealand under the auspices of ``Lord of the Rings’’ producer Barrie Osborne.
The festival also features a mobile competition section, in which works shot solely using cell phones will vie for prizes.
Screenings will take place at CGV Prime Sindorim, Guro, CGV Movie Collage, Sindorim Technomart and Guro Digital Complex. Films will also be shown online through the portal site Daum and through large screens installed on Seoul Metro trains during the course of the festival.
