If you are into fashion, this Wednesday will be a festival fit for you, literally.
The so-called ``fashion bible’’ Vogue magazine is holding a global fashion festival called ``Vogue Fashion’s Night Out’’ in one of Seoul’s hippest fashion districts and department stores.
The staff at Vogue Korea looked busy even at a glance, with some rushing around on errands, while others were busy on their laptops at their desks in their office last Friday.
Vogue Korea editor-in-chief Lee Myung-hee also looked a bit tired, but her voice and eyes were sharp and compelling as she gave instructions and looked over the festival’s programs.
``Bring in some Vitamin Water, I need to freshen up and get a boost,’’ she asked a staff member during an interview with The Korea Times.

``Making a magazine is difficult enough on its own, but we have such big event coming up and it’s driving us all crazy,’’ she said smiling.
Vogue Fashion’s Night Out first started last year under the supervision of the United States’ Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The worldwide fashion event was held in 13 countries that publish their own versions of Vogue, and this year it has expanded to 16, including Italy, Germany, Australia and Korea.
``Everything around us is about fashion and since Vogue is considered the fashion bible, it’s great that we are actually holding a fashion festival all around the world.’’
The initiative of the event was to revive the staggering fashion industry in the U.S. and Europe, but this didn’t apply to Asian countries.
``In Korea’s case, luxury brands have never had any problems in business, so we are focusing more on holding a big and exciting fashion festival Korea has never seen,’’ Lee said.
Indeed, the event will be a big one, with more than 100 brands participating.
The festival will include fashion shows, photo shoots, styling and makeup classes with celebrities, launches of special editions made exclusively for the event and also free gifts.
``I think Korea is growing even faster than Japan in terms of interest in luxury brands and sales. This is because young people are so interested in fashion and practically everything is related to fashion these days. You have various collaborations with artists, architecture and even cars. Fashion is literally everywhere.’’
Most countries hold their festivals in popular fashion districts, but as local customers are loyal fans to department stores, the magazine decided to invite Shinsegae department store this year to add variety and also practicality to the event.
``Koreans adore department stores and so it was impossible not to work with one of them. Each country has arranged the festival that fits their taste and conditions, and we have decided to bring the festivity to Myeong-dong and Shinsegae.’’
``It’s meaningful that the world becomes one in terms of fashion, thanks to Vogue. It will be the first grand-scale fashion festival to be ever held in Korea in line with other fashion-savvy countries as well,’’ the editor said.
Vogue Fashion’s Night Out will take place at Myeong-dong and Shinsegae department stores on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
