Two leading musicians from California's prestigious Biola University Conservatory of Music will perform in Seoul's Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Oct. 16. Violinist Dr. Kang-won Lee Kim and pianist Dr. Li-shan Hung will play timeless pieces by Mozart, Ravel and Brahms.
The duet celebrates the centennial anniversary of Biola Conservatory. Founded in 1908, the Christian institution has a longstanding history of excellent musical education in both classical and jazz music. Students receive rigorous training in both theory and practice, grounding themselves in musical composition and history as well as personal performance.
Lee Kim teaches violin as an assistant professor at Biola. Named one of the Rising Young Artists at the Seoul Arts Center in 1996, she has played with numerous leading symphonies in the U.S., and has been invited to perform at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York as well as the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The violinist has recorded for the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi and CRI labels, and her live recordings have been broadcast on the U.S. National Public Radio.
Lee Kim holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has also studied at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Manhattan School of Music and Temple University. She also teaches the violin at the annual Credo Chamber Music Festival at Oberlin.
