Korea is scrambling to brace for the rapidly approaching Typhoon Khanun, which is expected to make landfall on the southern coast on Thursday morning, carrying heavy rains and strong winds nationwide.
목요일(10일) 오전 전국적인 폭우와 강풍을 몰고 태풍 '카눈'이 남해안에 상륙할 것으로 예상되면서 한국은 긴급히 준비 태세에 돌입했다.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), Wednesday, the entire country is expected to be under the influence of the strong storm throughout the day.
기상청에 따르면 수요일 전국이 하루 종일 강한 폭풍우의 영향권 아래 놓일 것으로 보인다.
Typhoon Khanun is forecast to pass through South Korea and reach North Korea on Friday morning.
태풍 카눈은 한반도 남쪽을 지나 금요일 아침 북한에 도달할 것으로 예측된다.
Reaching southern waters 120 kilometers south of Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, at about 3 a.m., Thursday, the weather agency forecast Khanun will move past Jeju Island and make initial contact with the mainland near the Tongyeong about six hours later.
기상청은 카눈이 목요일 오전 3시경 경남 통영에서 남쪽 120km 해상에 도달한 후 약 6시간 뒤 제주도를 지나 통영 인근 내륙에 처음 상륙할 것으로 내다봤다.
As of Thursday morning, the typhoon is forecast to carry strong winds of 119 to 158 kilometers per hour and with an air pressure of around 970 hectopascals.
목요일 오전 기준 태풍 카눈은 시속 119~158km의 강풍과 중심기압 970hPa 안팎의 강풍을 동반할 것으로 예보됐다.
Khanun's trajectory is expected to be almost parallel to the Korean Peninsula as it moves northwards, meaning that the entire country and nearby seas will experience an extreme downpour and strong winds.
태풍 카눈은 북상하면서 한반도와 거의 평행한 궤적을 이룰 것으로 예상돼 내륙 전체와 인근 해상에 강한 폭우와 강풍이 몰아칠 것으로 보인다.
However, the intensity is expected to weaken once it makes landfall, carrying winds of 90 to 115 kilometers per hour.
하지만 카눈은 한반도에 상륙하면서 강도가 약해져 시속 90∼115㎞의 바람을 동반할 전망이다.
It is forecast to reach Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province at around 3 p.m. and approach Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province at about 9 p.m., according to Woo Jin-kyu, an official at the KMA. By 3 a.m. on Friday, Khanun is forecast to move past the inter-Korean border and will be approximately 120 kilometers southeast of Pyongyang.
우진규 기상청 예보분석관에 따르면 카눈은 오후 3시쯤 충북 청주에 도착해 오후 9시경 경기도 남양주에 접근한다. 금요일 오전 3시경 카눈은 남북 경계선을 넘어 평양 남동쪽 약 120㎞ 지점까지 북상할 전망이다.
