U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Seoul early this morning for the G20 Summit to be held on Thursday and Friday.
In a statement released after arriving, the UN chief expressed hope that the G20 leaders will discuss development issues, including poverty reduction, in detail.
He said he would present the U.N.’s position on major global issues such as climate change and green growth during the two-day summit.
Ban noted that the G20 has exerted a great deal of influence on the global economy, as well as finance, saying its clout has been growing year after year.
The former South Korean foreign minister called on the G20 leaders to work closely with the United Nations.
Delegates from several international institutions, including the U.N. and International Labor Organization, will participate in the two-day meeting.
During his visit to Seoul, Ban is scheduled to meet with both national and foreign journalists at multiple news conferences.
He will meet with foreign correspondents based in Seoul at 11:00 a.m.
The U.N. chief will have another interview with five local broadcasters in the afternoon.
