South Korea's Air Force conducted a large-scale air raid drill against a simulated North Korean military installation on Monday, mobilizing its top-of-the-line fighter jets.
The flight drill held earlier in the day simulated an air attack on a key North Korean facility, according to the Air Force.
A total of 18 airplanes were mobilized for the exercise, including F-15K, F-16 and FA-50 combat jets.
For the first time in any flight assault exercise, the Air Force deployed the C-130H military transport aircraft, which is tasked with delivering special troops to a conflict area.
The exercise is the latest in a series of military drills South Korea conducted in recent months, sometimes in collaboration with the United States following North Korea's duo military provocations earlier in the year.
Pyongyang conducted its fourth nuclear test in January, followed by a long-range missile test in early February.
"If the enemy provokes, the Air Force will deal resolutely at the early stages with overwhelming fire power," Air Force Maj. Kang In-hong, who commanded the drill, was quoted as saying. (Yonhap)
