A Turkish woman who was a continuing victim of domestic violence has been given a new identity, complete with plastic surgery to change her appearance, the BBC reports.
Because the woman's boyfriend repeatedly beat her, a court on Tuesday granted her a permanent change of appearance, identity information and address.
As part of the directive, the court granted the woman, 20, state-paid plastic surgery, along with living expenses if necessary.
In 2012, Turkey passed a law related to violence against women which grants identity changes when a person's life is considered to be in danger.
However, this marked the first time that a Turkish court has taken such extreme measures, and the decision has caused a public outcry.
