Two women wearing lettuce-covered bikinis showed up on the streets of Washington D.C. on Monday to promote vegetarianism.
Lindsay Rajt and Ashley Rose belong to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The "lettuce ladies" handed out free vegan Subway sandwiches to promote eating vegan outside a Subway store while holding a signboard reading "Turn over a leaf, go vegan."
PETA's lettuce ladies also appeared in Minneapolis earlier this year, where they handed out hot cocoa in the cold weather. In addition to the drink, the eye-catching activists handed out leaflets promoting the benefits of going vegan.
"I've stood as the snow came down while wearing a bikini, but we've endured even colder temperatures and always survived," said Rajt. "At the end of the event, we'll be healthy and looking forward to the next one."
