The labor union of Kiryung Electronics has agreed with management to settle disputes over the employment status of 10 non-permanent workers, producing an agreement after almost six years.
The agreement came 1,895 days after their struggle began to demand that management acknowledge non-permanent workers as regular workers.
The Korean Metal Workers’ Union, the umbrella union group of Kiryung, said the union and management signed the agreement late Monday afternoon.
Under the agreement, management agreed to guarantee the 10 employees job security, the two sides will withdraw all lawsuits filed against each other, and the union will halt all sit-in protests.
Non-permanent workers formed a labor union in July, 2005, and staged demonstrations for nearly 1,900 days.
