The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) hosted Monday an international forum for research-oriented universities to discuss their role in the technology and science sectors.
Some 40 presidents and vice presidents of universities from 15 countries participated in the event at the Chosun Westin Hotel in Seoul.
Lee Ju-ho, minister of education, science and technology as well as high-ranking officials from research institutes and corporations also participated in the forum, the third of its kind.
In the two sessions; “Mobility for Global Research Universities” and “The Role of the Research University in a Science and Technology Dominated Era: Expectation vs. Delivery,” Lars Pallesen, rector of the Technical University of Denmark spoke on student mobility in a globalized world.
Suh Nam-pyo, KAIST President presented the role of research universities in a technology-dominated world.
“It was a good opportunity for representatives of the leading research universities to share challenged missions and seek solutions for a better future,” said KAIST President Suh.
Akhmaloka, rector of the Institut Teknologi Bandung delivered a presentation under the title; “Be a World Class University through Solving National Problems.”
Among the invited universities were Georgia Institute of Technology, the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Queensland, Tokyo Institute of Technology, and Nanyang Technological University. Other participants were Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
