South Korean Premier League star Son Heung-min has won the 2020 Puskas award on Thursday night, a FIFA award for the best goal of the year, the world's football governing body said Friday.
한국의 프리미어 리그 스타 손흥민 선수가 목요일 밤 올해의 최고의 골에 주어지는 국제축구연맹 상인 푸스카스를 수상했다고 국제축구연맹이 금요일 발표했다.
Son was nominated for his goal against Burnley FC in December last year. In that match, he picked up the ball on the edge of the Spurs' penalty area and ran the entire length of the field on his own, cutting through the heart of the opposing defense before hammering it home.
손흥민은 작년 12월 번리FC와의 경기에서 터뜨린 득점으로 후보에 올랐다. 해당 경기에서 그는 스퍼스의 페널티 지역 가장자리에서 공을 받아 경기장 전체를 달렸고, 득점하기 전에 상대 수비의 중심부를 뚫고 들어갔다.
The breathtaking solo goal received a total of 24 points, beating out two other nominees: Luis Suarez and Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
이 경이로운 단독 득점은 총 24점을 받아 다른 후보 선수 두 명(루이스 수아레스, 조지안 데 아라스케타)을 물리쳤다.
"Twelve thrilling seconds were all it took for Son Heung-min to take the ball from his own 18-yard box and find the net at the other end," FIFA said on its homepage. "The goal showcased everything that has led Tottenham Hotspur fans to fall in love with their Korea Republic star, with pace, power, persistence and clinical finishing all on show."
국제축구연맹은 공식 홈페이지를 통해 "손흥민은 자기 팀의 골문에서 18야드 떨어진 곳에서 공을 잡아 반대편 골문까지 12초가 다였다"고 밝혔다. 이어 "속도, 파워, 끈기, 정교한 마무리가 결합된 이 골은 토트넘 홋스퍼 팬들이 한국인 축구 스타와 사랑에 빠지게 만든 모든 것을 보여준 득점이다"라고 덧붙였다.
He became the second Asian player and the first in South Korea to win the award.
그는 푸스카스상을 받은 두 번째 아시아 선수이자 첫 번째 한국인 선수가 되었다.
