More young people, mostly teenagers, are taking online violence offline to hurt others and get attention on social networks.
Examples include videos of people going after someone for revenge after they argued online. In the style of a solo broadcast show, a man recorded himself taking four large dogs into another man's apartment after they clashed online. The resident, scared by the dogs, begged the infiltrator for mercy.
Other online videos show people getting angry after chatting, and then finding out the person's phone number and address to attack them.
SNS stars who have tens of thousands of followers also are posting provocative videos to attract more followers.
"Popularity on SNS can be transferable with money these days," the Hankook Ilbo said. "Many teenagers see SNS content as an easy way to earn money, and they create more violent and stimulating content to earn online popularity."
