Tropical storm Aere will not directly affect the country but rather result in a heatwave with a heat index of over 30 degrees Celsius.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), Sunday, the typhoon is heading toward the northwestern waters of Japan's Prefecture at seven kilometers per hour.
Aere will pass 290 kilometers south of Jeju Island's Seogwipo City by 9 a.m. Monday, and move east to pass Japan's Kyushu Island before weakening in Osaka's southwestern tropical zone.
Jeju Island will be under the minor influence of the typhoon, creating high waves far out at sea in the island's south and southeastern waters.
However, the tropical storm will bring hot and humid air to the peninsula, with a heatwave forecast to continue until Wednesday. The intense heat is expected to cool down on Thursday, the KMA said.
The Ministry of Interior and Safety issued a nationwide heatwave alert on Saturday, as the high temperature has remained over 33 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days. The alert has been issued 18 days earlier than last year's heatwave alert.
Along with the high temperatures, rain is forecast until Tuesday, with between 50 and 40 millimeters of precipitation expected in inland areas of the peninsula.
