The War Memorial of Korea and the Mexican Embassy in Seoul will co-organize an exhibition, Tuesday, to commemorate Mexicans and Mexican Americans who fought in the Korean War.

The exhibition, titled "Mexicans and Mexican Americas: The Forgotten Soldiers of the Korean War," was organized to recognize the sacrifices of those Mexican soldiers during the three-year conflict. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Korea.

The display, which will run until Sept. 25, will feature documentary drawings by the Korean War veterans and telegrams containing news of injuries and other information, according to the war museum.

The Mexican government did not participate in the Korean War by providing military support, but the Mexico-U.S. Agreement Regarding Military Service by Nationals of Either Country Residing in the Other allowed more than 100,000 Mexican nationals or Mexican Americans to fight in the Korean War as members of the U.S. Army. Among them, 555 received medals in recognition of their bravery.

Tuesday's opening ceremony will include War Memorial of Korea Director Lee Sang-chul, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-shik, Mexican Ambassador to Korea Bruno Figueroa and POSCO President Jeong Tak.

In addition, three war veterans ― Sierra Barbosa Roberto, Fernandez Almada Albero Jesus and Lozano Bustos Antonio ― and their families will also participate in the ceremony.

POSCO sponsored the exhibition as part of the global steelmaker's project to commemorate Mexican veterans of the Korean War that began in 2013. The company also sponsored the travel costs of the three veterans and their families to visit Korea.
