Q: I am Indian. I am looking for a job as a doctor, more specifically a general practitioner. Please advise me whether there is any Web site related to this or any magazines or newsletter where I could get some information.
A: We've contacted the National Health Personnel and Licensing Examination Board (www.kuksiwon.or.kr).
To work in the medical sector in Korea, you need a license issued by NHPLEB. You have to take an exam for that.
There are certain qualifications one needs before taking the exam.
A qualified applicant is a person who graduated from university in Korea (major in medical science/medicine); or a person who graduated from university out of Korea (major in medical science/medicine with the certificate) with the condition that the person has to be screened by NHPLEB in advance and is allowed to take the exam to get a license.
For more information, contact NHPLEB. The person in charge is Kim Na-youn (whitenay@kuksiwon.or.kr).
Q: I don't have a driver's license. But is it possible to have a car? And is it mandatory to have car insurance?
A: You don't need a driver's license even if you want to be the registered owner of your car. When you register a car, you will need to have mandatory liability insurance for the car. But in order to drive your car, we recommend you to change your foreign driver's license to a Korean driver's license. Some countries are exempt from the written test.
Please refer to the following Web site for more details.

Q: I've been living here for 16 years. I have had my international driver's license issued in the United States. But the problem is the term of validity is only one year. Is there any way to extend its validity here?
A: Since it was issued in your country, there is no other way but to renew it in your home country every year.
