Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok has more than 97 million K-pop videos, the platform said Wednesday.

As of September, the total number of K-pop videos on TikTok exceeded 97 million, recording an almost three-fold increase from 33 million in 2019.

The platform, which accumulated the data in cooperation with the music startup Space Oddity, revealed that 92.8 percent of the clips were made in countries other than Korea.

"Our users in Indonesia created the highest number of videos, accounting for 16.4 percent," TikTok said in a statement.

"Trailing behind were the Philippines and the U.S. that took up 13.5 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively. Korea came fourth, comprising 7.2 percent."

TikTok attributed the rise in the number of the clips to the platform's "ease-of-use." "People can easily produce their videos and share them with others on TikTok," it said.

"In fact, TikTok has contributed to the creation of a new fan culture by enabling users to release their own dance covers or K-pop news content, instead of just appreciating the original content."

TikTok also disclosed that K-pop titan BTS has the most followers on the platform.

Among all rookie K-pop acts, girl group STAYC ― which dropped its first mini-album "STEREOTYPE" in September ― saw the highest increase in the number of its followers during the past six months.

Prior to the release of "STEREOTYPE," the High-Up Entertainment stars gave a preview of their new song on TikTok.

TikTok became one of the major promotional channels for K-pop singers in 2019, after rapper Zico's "Any Song" topped multiple music streaming charts thanks to TikTok.
