All air travelers entering US will need negative COVID-19 test

All air passengers bound for the United States will require a negative Covid-19 test within three days of their departure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said Tuesday.

미국행 비행기에 탑승하는 모든 승객은 탑승 전 3일 이내에 코로나19 음성판정 확인서를 제출해야 한다고 미국 질병통제예방센터(CDC)가 화요일 밝혔다.

"Testing does not eliminate all risk but when combined with a period of staying at home and everyday precautions like wearing masks and social distancing, it can make travel safer," said CDC Director Robert Redfield.

"검사가 모든 위험을 없애지는 않지만, 자가 격리 기간과 마스크 착용 및 사회적 거리두기 등 일상적인 예방 조치와 결합한다면, 여행을 더 안전하게 만들 수 있다"고 미국 CDC의 로버트 레드필드 국장은 말했다.

The policy will take effect on January 26, and expands on a previous testing rule that targeted Britain and came into effect in December, following the emergence of a coronavirus variant believed to be more transmissible.

이 조치는 이달 26일부터 시행되며, 지난 12월 영국에서 전염성이 강해진 것으로 보이는 변종 바이러스의 발생 이후 영국만을 대상으로 강화된 검사 수칙에서 확대 시행된다.

Other variants of concern have also been reported in South Africa and Brazil. On Tuesday, Japan said it was working to isolate and analyze a variant detected in four passengers who arrived from Brazil.

변이 바이러스의 우려들이 남아프리카와 브라질에서도 보고되고 있다. 화요일, 일본은 브라질에서 입국한 승객들을 격리하고 이들에게서 발견된 변종 바이러스를 분석하는 작업을 하고 있다고 밝혔다.

The CDC also recommends that travelers get tested again three to five days after their arrival, and stay home for at least seven days.

미국 CDC는 여행객들이 입국 3~5일 후에 재검사를 받고 최소 7일간 집에 머물 것을 권고한다.

The test must be for "current infection" and passengers are required to provide written proof of its outcome to airlines before they are allowed to board.

검사는 ‘현재 감염 여부'에 대한 것이어야 하며, 승객들은 탑승이 승인되기 전에 음성 판정에 대한 확인서를 항공사에 제출해야 한다.

Some epidemiologists have warned it is likely that new, more transmissible variants are already establishing themselves in the United States, where more than 379,000 people have died from Covid-19 and over 3,000 more are dying every day. (AFP)

일부 감염병 전문가들은 매일 3,000명 이상의 사망자가 발생하고 누적 사망자 수가 37만9천명이 넘어선 미국에서 더 전염성이 강한 새로운 변종 바이러스가 이미 자리를 잡고 있다고 경고했다.
