By Jung Hae-myoung

The "supermoon" from July 13 to 15 may cause high-tide flooding along the southwestern coast that will be affected by Typhoon Maria, the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Administration (KHOA) said.

The phenomenon occurs when the moon is at its closest to Earth.

According to the KHOA, four areas ― Incheon, Mokpo, Masan and Seongsanpo ― are expected to experience dangerously high sea levels.

The agency warned people to avoid activities around the shore between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. when the tide is high.
