Tesla, an American electric vehicle company, has gained popularity in South Korea selling more than a million cars.
However, the company is now mired in controversy over safety issues after one of its electric vehicles burst into flames at a luxury apartment complex in Yongsan, Seoul.
The owner of the car, a senior attorney of a large law firm, died on the spot, while the designated driver and the apartment guards who tried to put out the fire were hospitalized.
The immediate cause of the fire, it is now known, was from the battery igniting after the car bumped against a wall. A failure in the automatic door lock function is also thought to be one of the causes.
