Multicultural background helps Ham respect other cultures
Ham Hui-jeong, a second grader at Hongcheon Girls' Middle School in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, strives to develop her language skills.
Born to a Kazakhstani mother and Korean father, she is fluent in Russian and Korean. She also learned English through years of studying on her own by reading books at local libraries and participating in education programs provided by the local government.
Thanks to her multicultural background, she is very open to other cultures and has a deep understanding of ethnic diversity.
The hard-working student won the grand prize at a bilingual speaking contest held in Hongcheon in 2019. Based on her excellent language skills, she wants to be an international police officer in the future and set a good example to other multiethnic children.
She often travels to Kazakhstan during vacations to visit her grandmother.

Abdulkhamidov dreams of becoming writer with his linguistic talents
Born to parents from Uzbekistan, Abdulkhamidov Abdulbosit naturally learned to speak Uzbek, Russian and Korean.
The 12-year-old student of Jeam Elementary School in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, participated in a bilingual speech contest hosted by the local government in 2019, in which he gave a presentation on "Ways to enhance Korean language skills" based on his own learning experience.
The same year, he participated as a student writer in a school project and published textbooks for multinational students. Abdulkhaminov proposed creative ideas on ways to learn Korean.
His book, written in both Russian and Korean, was published in November, and it will be used for Russian-speaking multiethnic students across the country.
Based on his outstanding foreign language skills, Abdulkhaminov dreams of becoming a writer and delivering hopeful messages to children by writing books in multiple languages.

Warmhearted Kang is talented young musician
Kang Ye-jin, a first grader at Lila Art High School in Seoul, is a talented young musician who plays several instruments including the piano, guitar, violin and ukulele.
Born to a Russian mother and Korean father, Kang is proud of her multicultural background, and does not hesitate to introduce Russian culture to her friends, ready to help them develop understanding on multiethnic families.
Kang actively led a classroom debate on multicultural families in Korea, during which she shared her genuine thoughts, experiences and hardships. She strives in and outside of school to eliminate social prejudices against multiethnic families.
The warmhearted Kang is also popular with her classmates. She reaches out to those in need and encourages other students who fall behind to actively participate in classroom activities.
With her talent in music, her dream is to become a composer and music producer.
