The Korea Times invites readers to enjoy the crisp mountain air and early morning sunshine at the 458th Turtle Marathon this Saturday.

The event, organized by the Hankook Ilbo, the sister paper of The Korea Times, and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and sponsored by the KB Kookmin Bank, will take place at Namsan. The starting point will be Baekbeom Square, in Namsan Park's Hoehyeon area. The marathon has drawn more than 1.2 million people since 1978.

Choi Wan-keun, an official at the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, will supervise and lead the Turtle Marathon. The walkathon was organized to honor the patriots and martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Korea.

The six-kilometer course will lead from Baekbeom Square towards the National Theater of Korea, and then back to the square by way of the Namsan walking trail.

A prize drawing will be held at the end of the event. Prizes include an LED TV, assorted duck meat gift sets and drinks provided by Nongshim Co. A special performance by K-pop group HIGH4 and a children's choir will highlight the event.

Students who participate in the cleanup afterward will receive certification for completion of three hours of volunteer work. Students can register at www.1365.go.kr.

Admission is free. For more information, visit http://www.hkturtle.com.
