Chinese state media took aim at the U.S. government over the weekend as many American cities were gripped by raging protests and clashes, comparing the unrest with the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.
많은 미국 도시들이 격앙된 시위와 충돌에 휩싸이자, 중국의 관영 매체는 지난 주말 미국 정부를 겨냥해 미국의 불안 상황을 홍콩의 민주화 시위와 비교했다.
Beijing has long been infuriated by criticism from Washington, over its handling of the pro-democracy protests that shook Hong Kong last year.
지난해 홍콩을 뒤흔든 민주화 시위에 대한 미국 정부의 비난에 중국 정부는 오랫동안 격분해 왔다.
As unrest erupted across the United States over racial inequality and police brutality after the death during arrest of an unarmed black man, Chinese government spokespeople and official media launched broadsides against American authorities.
비무장 흑인 남성이 체포 도중 사망한 후 인종차별과 경찰의 잔혹성에 대한 불만이 미국 전역에서 폭발하자, 중국 정부 대변인들과 관영 매체는 미국 당국을 향해 비난을 퍼붓기 시작했다.
Chinese media also circulated video clips suggesting Hong Kong police were "restrained" in comparison to the suppression seen in the U.S.
중국 언론들도 미국에서 일어나는 진압에 비해 홍콩 경찰들이 '절제된' 상태임을 암시하는 미국 시위 영상을 계속해서 방영했다.

"U.S. House Keeper Nancy Pelosi once called the violent protests in Hong Kong ‘a beautiful sight to behold.' U.S. politicians now can enjoy this sight from the own windows," Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of nationalist tabloid Global Times, wrote Saturday.
중국의 국수주의 일간지 글로벌타임스(환구시보)의 후시진 편집장은 토요일 "낸시 펠로시 미 하원의장은 홍콩에서 벌어진 폭력시위를 '보기 아름다운 광경'이라고 말했다. 미국의 정치인들은 이제 이 아름다운 광경을 자신들의 창문을 통해 즐길 수 있다"고 글을 올렸다.
It was "as if the radical rioters in Hong Kong somehow snuck into the U.S. and created a mess like they did last year," he added.
"미국의 모습은 마치 홍콩의 과격한 폭도들이 미국에 잠입해 작년과 같은 난장판을 만든 것 같다"고 그는 덧붙였다.
China has insisted that "foreign forces" are to blame for the turmoil in Hong Kong, where pro-democracy protesters – described by Beijing as rioters – have marched in the millions since June last year and often clashed with the police. (AFP)
중국이 폭도로 묘사하는 수백만명의 홍콩 민주화 시위대가 지난해 6월부터 행진하며 경찰과 자주 충돌했고, 중국은 이러한 홍콩의 혼란이 ‘외국인 세력'에 책임이 있다고 주장해왔다.
