The black-and-white version of the Oscar-winning film "Parasite" will hit local theaters on April 29, after the original February premiere date was postponed due to the coronavirus.
CJ ENM announced the new release date on Wednesday, saying: "The movie will be screened from the 29th … but we have not yet decided on the number of theaters for screening."
As the original version of the film is set for streaming release through IPTV (internet protocol TV) and VOD (video on demand) services in May, the black-and-white cut's release could not be delayed further.
The monochrome edition of director Bong Joon-ho's film has already premiered in several countries, including the U.S. and the Netherlands.
Bong and cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo retouched every scene to remove color to offer a stronger sense of contrast and a different viewing experience than the original version.
Meanwhile, ticket sales for movie theaters have been decreasing since the coronavirus spread, hitting their lowest ― 15,726 ― since 2004 on Monday.
