Sahmyook students win award at college EV competition

Students of Sahmyook University's vehicle manufacturing club placed third in an e-mobility competition for college students held at Yeonggwang Sportium in Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province.

The competition, co-hosted by the Yeonggwang County Office and the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers Sept. 27, was the first contest where college students showcased one-person electric cars they designed and made.

Around 400 students in 33 teams participated. The Sahmyook students' club, MFS, made their own vehicle named “Moses,” which generates its driving force by supplying electric energy to its motor. It had fast acceleration and speed, especially on the straight section of the driving course.

MFS also won first place in several sub-categories of the contest, including safety and brake function inspections, and a slalom completion.

“From purchasing components to welding, it took a long time and a lot of effort to complete the vehicle, and it was hard work and required our members' cooperation,” MFS leader Yoo Keo-sang said. “We won third place this time, but will do our best to get a better result next year.”

Electric mobility refers to vehicles that are powered by an electric motor and primarily get their energy from the power grid. It is usually used for compact transportation for one or two people in Korea. These vehicles are gaining an increasing market share in the automotive business.
