Euljiro Nogari Beer Festival will kick off today for its two-day run in Nogari Alley in Euljiro, central Seoul.
The annual event, launched in 2013, has gained recognition from foreigners as well as locals as one of the best places to experience Korea's outdoor drinking culture.
The biggest draw of the festival is that visitors can enjoy 500-milliliter draft beer and nogari, or dried young Pollack grilled on charcoal briquettes, for only 1,000 won ($0.85) each.
This year 20 pubs, in the alley a few blocks from Euljiro 3-ga Station, are committed to the festival and those who want to enjoy affordable beer and nogari can visit from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.
The beer and snacks are not the only things to enjoy there as a variety of events have also been planned, such as a beer-chugging competition and a quiz.
The cooperative of nogari pubs will donate the total revenue from the festival to a welfare program run by Jung-gu Office.
