Son Dam-bi, a singer and actress, has been named the brand ambassador of the state-run Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operation Corp. (KOMSCO), the company said Thursday.

She will be attending KOMSCO's annual events and marketing campaigns to promote the company's products and services until April, 2020.

Son debuted with her single “Cry Eye” in 2007, and hit the top charts with another single “Crazy” the following year, then “Saturday Night” in 2009.

The “Crazy” song, featuring Son's chair dance sequence became incredibly popular, and it was parodied numerously by comedians and actors in TV shows and sitcoms.

The singer then began to concentrate on acting, starring in MBC drama “Lights and Shadows” in 2011.

She initially wanted to become an actress, but her manager saw her talent in singing and she then started vocal and dance training, she once said in an interview.

Son recently starred in “The Accidental Detective 2,” a comedy sequel movie about two private eye detectives played by Kwon Sang-woo and Sung Dong-il.

She also appeared on JTBC variety show “Try,” featuring actors and actresses working as interns at various companies. Son “interned” at KOMSCO for a day on the program.

“Son has mass appeal as she has appeared in movies, dramas and TV shows. We are proud that she came on board to help promote our brand and increase its value for society,” KOMSCO CEO Cho Yong-man said in a press statement.

KOMSCO was founded in 1951 as the sole manufacturer of Korean currency.

The company manufactures more than 600 different types of products including commemorative banknotes, coins, medals, welfare cards and ID cards for civil servants.

It has produced electronic national identification cards for Kyrgyzstan, and banknotes for Indonesia, using its anti-forgery technology.
