Nationwide rain and snow are part of the forecast for the Lunar New Year holidays -- from tomorrow until Monday ― according to the state weather agency.

Jan. 27: The first day of the holidays will have nationwide rain and snow, with the morning low in Seoul and surrounding areas dropping to minus 5 degrees Celsius.

Seoul and some parts of Gyeonggi Province will have about a centimeter of snow or up to 10 millimeters of rain. The western part of Gangwon Province and the inner areas of Chungchoeng, North Jeolla and North Gyeongsang Province will have up to five centimeters of snow or less than five millimeters of rain.

The rain and snow will start early Friday and cease in the afternoon.

"Drivers leaving Seoul should be careful of the snow on the roads," an agency official said.

Jan. 28: On Saturday ― the official Lunar New Year's Day ― high pressure from China will bring clear yet chilly weather. The morning low in Seoul and surrounding areas, such as Incheon and Suwon in Gyeonggi Province, will drop to minus 6 degrees Celsius. Other areas, such as Chuncheon and Gangneung in Gangwon Province, will have morning lows below minus 10 and 2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

People may feel colder than the actual temperature because of strong winds, the official said.

Jan. 29: A trough of low pressure will bring morning rain to Jeju Island and South Jeolla Province. The rain will spread across the southern part of the country in the afternoon and to other regions at night.

The morning low in Seoul and surrounding areas will be around minus 4 degrees Celsius.

Jan. 30: The last day of the holiday will be cloudy, with nationwide rain and snow in the morning. Central and northern parts of the country are expected to have about two to five centimeters of snow or five to 20 millimeters of rain, while the other regions may have less than a centimeter of snow. The snow and rain will stop during the day.

The morning low in Seoul and surrounding areas will be around minus 4 degrees Celsius, similar to Sunday.
