President Moon Jae-in's approval rating jumped 11 percentage points this week, buoyed by his third summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang, according to a survey released Friday.
In a Gallup Korea poll conducted from Tuesday to Thursday, 61 percent of the 1,001 respondents said they support Moon's job performance, up from 50 percent last week.
The survey coincided with the three-day summit that ended Thursday.
Moon's disapproval rating dipped 9 percentage points to 30 percent. The remaining respondents said they were not sure about the President's job performance.
This comes after Moon's approval rating hit record lows recently amid the prolonged economic struggle and controversy surrounding his economic policy, including the minimum wage increase.
"And it can be said the rise in his approval rating is attributed to the Pyongyang summit," Gallup Korea said.
Among those who supported Moon, 26 percent gave him credit for improving cross-border relations, 14 percent for holding the summit again, 12 percent for the North Korea and security policies, 8 percent for foreign policy and 5 percent for Moon's "utmost efforts" in state affairs.
Among those who disapproved of Moon's job performance, 44 percent referred to Moon's shortcomings in tackling economic difficulties, 14 percent to his "pro-North Korean policy," 7 percent to the minimum wage increase and 4 percent to his real estate policy.
By age groups, 70 percent of those in their 30s responded favorably, 66 percent in their 40s, 63 percent of those in their 20s, 58 percent of those in their 60s and 50 percent of those in their 50s answered the same.
The ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) received support of 46 percent, the main opposition Liberty Korea Party (LKP) 13 percent, the Justice Party 10 percent, the Bareunmirae Party 4 percent and the Party for Democracy and Peace 1 percent.
The DPK's approval rating rose 6 percentage points and LKP's 2 percentage points, while it fell by 4 percentage points for the Bareunmirae Party and 2 percentage points for the Party for Democracy and Peace.
