Taxi fare in Seoul may be increased for the first time in four years.
The city government held a meeting with representatives of the city's taxi drivers, Thursday, to discuss measures to improve their working conditions.
They discussed whether the current basic fare of 3,000 won ($2.70) is enough, as taxi drivers urged the city government to increase the fare.
The drivers said their quality of life cannot improve much without significantly raising their salaries, which are about 2.2 million won a month on average.
Some drivers said the basic fare should be as much as 8,000 won.
But a city official said nothing has been determined yet.
"Policymakers have not discussed whether to raise the fare yet," the official said. "The meeting was held to only collect ideas and opinions from various groups."
The basic fare was increased to 3,000 won in 2013 from the 2,400 won fare set in 2009.
