The Seoul Shakespeare Company (SSC) will stage its production of "Garage" at Studio SK this weekend.
Originally devised by Dive Theatre in New York City, "Garage" is a raw, intimate and uncompromising work of contemporary theater.
The plot sees high school English teacher David and his wife Susan return to David's rural hometown in Arkansas for the funeral of his estranged alcoholic father.
While visiting the emptied-out garage where his father used to fix cars, the couple unexpectedly encounters Brandon, David's childhood bully.
During an alcohol-infused night in the garage together, David, Susan and Brandon reveal parts of themselves in unexpected, intimate, sometimes violent ways.
"Garage" was written in 2010 by Michael Hogwood, Nathan Riley, Bryce Kemph, Jenna Kirk and Jason Cutler, with rewrites in 2014 by Jason Cutler.
Starring Jamie Horan, Lauren Ash-Morgan and Jason Cutler, the SSC production is directed by Michael Downey.
"This play breaks new ground for our company and gives audiences a chance to see some familiar faces in new theatrical territory," organizers said.
The SSC is a not-for-profit theater company centered in Seoul. Comprising a diverse community of actors and artists, the company strives to produce quality productions that span linguistic and cultural boundaries while celebrating live theater and the communities that produce these challenging and engaging works.
The performance contains adult language, sexual themes and mild violence and is not appropriate for children.
Performance times are 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with an approximate runtime of one hour.
All performances are in English with Korean subtitles.
There will be a talk-back with the audience after the Sunday 3 p.m. show.
Ticket prices are 15,000 won and only cash is accepted.
To find Studio SK, take exit 4 of Hyehwa Station on Line 4 and turn left. Follow that street for about three minutes, until you get to the main road. It is located near the main gate of Sungkyunkwan University.
Seating begins approximately 30 minutes before each performance. There is no assigned seating, so arrive early to choose the best seats.
