A bed used by former President Park Geun-hye is causing a headache over whether to sell it or keep using it, according to Cheong Wa Dae officials, Monday.
Park could not take the bed with her when she was removed from office in March because it was government property purchased with taxpayers' money.
The officials once considered having the presidential bodyguards or those on the nightshift at Cheong Wa Dae use Park's bed, after President Moon Jae-in and first lady Kim Jung-sook brought their own bed.
"But we concluded it was excessively luxurious to be recycled for such purposes," an official said. "Also, we thought people would find it uncomfortable lying on a bed that belonged to Park. We're really having a headache figuring out a new use for it, as government property must be used for a certain period of time before being discarded."
Some officials find it inappropriate to sell the bed on the secondhand market, citing it was used by a former president and has historical value.
The bed is currently in an empty room at the presidential residence.
"It perhaps can be used if a guest visits the President," the official said. "It may possibly go on display in the future as well."
