South Chungcheong Province opened Tuesday a public service center in Cheonan on Tuesday to provide unemployed migrant workers with welfare services and shelter.
The center is mainly to help migrant workers who have lost their jobs because their workplaces closed, or because of health issues or personal problems. Any worker who wishes to work in the province but has no residence can use the center facilities. Temporary shelter, adaptation assistance and job consultation are free.
The center also offers basic Korean language classes and helps put visitors in touch their local ethnic communities. The province funds the centers that the center provides, while independent organization Giving Tree Angel Movement runs them.
"The newly established center will protect migrant workers' human rights," a provincial office official told The Korea Times. "It will also contribute to stabilizing the city's local labor market by helping unemployed workers find another job."
For more information, contact the center at 041-559-9450.
