Swiss poster festival Weltformat will launch its Korean exhibition on Feb. 22.
With the theme "Rethinking Tourism Posters," 24 graphic designers and 12 students from both countries will present their work at the Platform Changdong 61 in Seoul until March 22, the Swiss Embassy said.
The word Weltformat means the standard size of a poster for public advertisement in Switzerland, where uniformity is required.
"Weltformat Korea will not be just ‘one stop' for a traveling exhibition but an expansion, exploring unique perspectives, diversity and nuances in visual culture," an embassy spokesperson said. "The juxtaposition of the two bodies of work (Swiss and Korean) will show a contrast in content, but also a similarity in visual aesthetic and approach. Above all else, it is an interchange of creativity and ideas appropriate for the times we live in."
Nicolas Descoeudres, deputy head of mission, said: "In the 1940s and '50s designers in my country brought a fresh wind to graphic design. The International Typographic Style or, in short, the Swiss Style, was the basis of much of the development of graphic design during the mid-20th century. The style favored simplicity, legibility and objectivity and it still has many adepts."
