Most unmarried Koreans will go out on a date this week for the love-themed Pepero Day, although many people believe the annual event is a commercial scheme, a survey showed.
Every November 11, Koreans exchange boxes of Pepero, which are chocolate-covered cookie-sticks. The holiday is mostly observed by young people and couples, and has romantic overtones.
Dating consultant Duo quizzed more than 500 single people on the dating scene about their thoughts and plans for the day, which falls on Tuesday this year.
Sixty-four percent said they have plans with their romantic partners.
At the same time, however, 57-percent respondents said they believe Pepero Day is tarnished with commercial interests.
As to their plans, 35 percent of female respondents wanted to have a nice dinner with their partner, while 15 said they wanted to receive a fashion item as a gift.
Twenty-six percent of male respondents agreed to the dinner option.
