A festival centering on "hallyu," (the Korean Wave), is slated to take place in the capital of Mexico from Dec. 17-18.
Hosted by online media outlet K-magazine, Hallyu Fest will be held at the National Museum of World Cultures in Mexico City. It is a free-of-charge event intended to bring together Mexican fans of Korean culture, offering them a chance to mingle with each other while enjoying diverse activities.
Boy group TFN, one of the most sought-after K-pop acts in Latin America, will hold a fan event on Dec. 6, one day before Hallyu Fest begins. According to K-magazine, the group will "promote its new single 'Amazon' and have an intimate moment with its Mexican fans."
Korean rock band COTOBA and indie band Tasty Shop are set to perform during the festival, giving a taste of the diverse music genres in the Korean music scene.
K-pop fans like Alexa Moreno, the first Mexican female artistic gymnast who won bronze on the vault at the 2018 World Championships in Doha, Qatar, will give a virtual first-hand account of her K-pop experience, with TikTok influencers like Nara Bask and Pau Pauri sharing their experiences on how they have bridged Korea and Mexico.
Hallyu Fest will also feature some dance performances and a class for those who are willing to learn Hangeul, the writing system of the Korean language.
"Hallyu Fest is the first cultural festival made especially for hallyu lovers in Mexico," K-magazine said in a statement. "It has the mission to connect the lovers of Korean culture with experts and influencers who unite Korea and Mexico."
Hallyu Fest drew more than 5,000 people in the first year of its launch in 2019. Its organizer, K-magazine, is a Spanish-language online media outlet dedicated to promoting Korean culture, which has more than 480,000 monthly visitors.
