    Putin/Nazi comparison
The Russian Embassy in Seoul has noticed the editorial “Dopey Olympics” published in your respectable daily on July 27, 2016. By no way we could leave such an article without comments.

    Coup attempt in Turkey
What happened on the night of 15 July 2016 in Turkey was an attempted coup by a small faction within the Turkish Armed Forces to overthrow the democratically-elected government and disrupt the constitutional order in Turkey. This attempt had nothing to do with the vast majority of the Turkish Armed Forces. The coup plotters were defeated by the bravery of the Turkish people, who in their thousands took to the streets to defend Turkish democracy. I am pleased to note that law and order in Turkey has been quickly restored and the culprits are being brought before the Turkish courts to face jus...

    NK is winner
Sometimes the way a question is not answered gives you the true answer. And I think your question to the defense minister about the THAAD was very spot-on and important and unfortunately, you got the real answer by his evasion.

    Irrational British decision
My feelings as a person from "the continent" after BREXIT might be similar to those of a spouse whose partner of decades, despite all the pleading, finally filed for divorce. But the project of the European Enlightenment is not tied to one form of political organization.

    Kimaros' Chagga hut
I am referring to the article written by Young Hoy Kim Kimaro. The experience I had when visiting the traditional Chagga hut on the slopes of Kilimanjaro was made special because the hut had been reconstructed by Mr. Sadikiel Kimaro. Mr. Kimaro is from that region and had many fond memories of his childhood.

    Cartoons about Thailand
With reference to The Korea Times cartoons dated May 18 and 24, 2016 on the situation in Thailand, I wish to provide you some clarification for the benefit of your readers, especially about the development of Thai politics, as follows: First, Thailand is in a crucial period of transition, in which the government's efforts are focused on seeing through the "Roadmap for Reconciliation, Reform, and Elections" in partnership with all sectors of society.

    Unhappy about Man Booker editorial
The recent editorial about Hang Kang's Man Booker Award was not at all the kind of writing we expect to find in The Korea Times and several of us who are translators of Korean literature are very unhappy about it.

    Shoot down NK missiles
In a woeful observation of a possible implosion of and insane suicidal attack by North Korea, the Apr. 25 editorial "Disarming N. Korea" enumerates two options to confront Pyongyang after the estranged regime carried out a failed submarine-launched missile test and a forward relocation of rocket batteries for intimidation.

Wrong lessons on French expat policy
Regarding the May 6 editorial, “No expat policy,” I remember speaking with a friend of mine in France over 30 years ago. He was one of these so-called Bobos (the bourgeois bohemians from Paris, part of the intellectual elite, mostly with a socialist ideology, which in France translates with “being well off and secure in a clean neighborhood, but feeling sorry for what the rest of the less-educated population faces in their daily lives”).

Reason for Korea's high smoking rate
In the April 4 “Cigarette packaging row” editorial, the government's showcasing of a set of horrible warning images to be put on cigarette packs is mentioned as a step in the right direction as part of efforts to rein in the highest smoking rate among OECD nations.
