Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) Governor Lee Bok-hyun is scheduled to join a financial firms' investor relations event in London in September, aiming to facilitate the promotion of the local financial industry. It will be Lee's second participation in the financial firms' overseas investor relations event since he took part in it in Singapore in May.
Titled "K-Finance in London in 2023," the event is slated to take place on Sept. 13, targeting both inbound and outbound financial investment, which is associated with the Korean market. On Friday the FSS said the state-run financial watchdog agency will co-host the event.
"The IR (investor relations) event in London is jointly hosted by the FSS, financial companies, as well as Seoul and Busan municipalities, planning to promote the strength of 'K-Finance' to foreign investors," Lee Jun-kyo, FSS director-general in charge of international affairs, told The Korea Times on Friday. "The FSS aims to support the financial firms that make forays into overseas markets by promoting fortes of the Korean financial industry. At the same time, the FSS hopes to attract inbound investment into the Korean market by providing clear information on the Korean financial authorities' latest attempts to innovate the market framework, and the stability of the local market."
Keen to expand the scope of overseas businesses, six CEOs of financial groups and companies will participate. Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin Ok-dong, Woori Financial Group Chairman Yim Jong-yong, Mirae Asset Securities CEO Choi Hyun-man, NH Investment CEO Chung Young-chae, Samsung Life Insurance CEO Park Jong-moon and Korean Re CEO Won Jong-gyu will join the event.
As the key financial hubs of the Korean market, Seoul and Busan officials will also participate in the investor relations event as co-hosts. They aim to attract foreign financial companies by promoting their cities.
Prior to the London event, FSS Governor Lee will visit Switzerland on Sept. 11 to attend a meeting at the Basel Committee.
