Korea has resumed a training program for financial bureaucrats from developing Asian countries after having suspended it for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said Tuesday.

It said the program began on Monday for a five-day run, with participation of 16 director-level officials from finance ministries and central banks from nine countries.

The nine are Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam ― all from ASEAN ― plus Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The program focuses on meeting finance experts from academia, the finance industry and the government, and learning about Korea's financial policies in relation to its rapid economic development.

The participants are scheduled to visit institutions where they can have on-site experience regarding the implementation of financial policies. Among the institutions are the Bank of Korea (BOK), the Korea Exchange (KRX) and Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK).

“We believe the program will help deepen understanding about Korea's financial policies among senior officials in Asia,” the ministry said.

It added that the program will also help the participants to network with Korean experts, and later enhance economic and financial cooperation in the region.
