Director Christopher Nolan's latest movie, "Oppenheimer," topped the local box office for five consecutive days, selling over 1.5 million tickets.
"'Oppenheimer' has surpassed 1.5 million ticket sales as of 11: 58 a.m.," the film's distributor, Universal Pictures Korea, said in a press release Sunday.'" "This is faster than director Christopher Nolan's previous works, 'Inception' and 'The Dark Knight.'"
The film, which hit theaters on Aug. 15, revolves around physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and his work on the top-secret Manhattan Project during World War 2 to develop an atomic bomb that changed the course of history.
The film opened with 552,000 ticket sales, grossing 5.76 billion won ($4.3 million). This is the biggest opening record for Nolan, beating all of his previous films. It surpassed the 1 million mark on Saturday.
Korean disaster blockbuster film, "Concrete Utopia," which topped the box office for six consecutive days since its release on Aug. 9, fell to second place.
The dystopian film, about a group of people who survive a massive earthquake, sold over 2.6 million tickets, garnering about 25.6 billion won.
