In the past, Korean singers usually released the soundtracks for dramas or movies only, but lately, they are diving into the new field that is gaining international traction ― webtoons or digital comics.

Singer-actor Jinyoung, a member of K-pop boy band B1A4, is poised to put out, "You Said You Don't Know Love," the soundtrack for the Ridi Corp. webtoon, "Morning Kiss at Tiffany's," on Oct 21. Jinyoung took part in composing the R&B/synth pop song, which will set the mood for "Morning Kiss at Tiffany's."

Prior to him, Soyou, of the now-disbanded girl group, Sistar, released "Breath" ― another soundtrack for the webtoon ― in September. "Morning Kiss at Tiffany's" revolves around a woman who becomes a housekeeper for her crush after losing her home.

In August, singer Kim Jong-kook dropped the sentimental ballad, "Tear Thief," a soundtrack for Naver's popular webtoon, "Joseon's Ban on Marriage." The romance fantasy story is about a marriage ban during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), which was imposed when the king or the crown prince were selecting their spouses.

Singer-actor Jinyoung is set to release, 'You Said You Don't Know Love,' a soundtrack for the popular webtoon, 'Morning Kiss at Tiffany's,' on Oct. 21. Courtesy of orangeDmsn

In the case of the webtoon, "The Moon that Rises in the Day," numerous high-profile singers lent their voices for the soundtracks. Soloist Gummy crooned "I'll Talk to You," while K.Will sang "Back in Time," a remake of LYN's 2012 release, which was also featured in the soundtrack for the smash-hit TV series, "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" (2012). Sandeul of B1A4 also released, "The One and Only You," for "The Moon that Rises in the Day," a timeslip romance that will soon be made into a drama.

On top of that, singers like Super Junior's Kyuhyun and EXO's Chanyeol have also made headlines for singing webtoon soundtracks that have created a great synergy with the comics.

"The soundtracks can help our viewers immerse themselves into our comics," Ridi CEO Bae Ki-sik said. "We will keep making new attempts to discover different ways to entertain people."
