Suga, a member of K-pop juggernaut BTS, celebrated his birthday this year by making a donation to support child cancer patients.
The Big Hit Entertainment star donated 100 million won ($88,000) to Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center in his hometown Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, on the occasion of his 28th birthday (March 9), according to hospital officials Thursday.
"I wanted to help the children, who cannot receive proper treatment because of financial hardship, and see them become healthy and bright," Suga said through the hospital.
Cho Chi-heum, the director of the hospital said: "We were so moved by Suga's charitable act. I hope positive influence like this can further spread in our society. I am also truly proud of BTS members for enhancing national prestige and wish the band continues to win the hearts of people around the world."
This is not the first time that Suga has given his hand to people in need. In 2019, he contributed 100 million won and 329 dolls ― under the name of BTS's global fandom ARMY ― to support child cancer patients. Last February, Suga donated 100 million won to the charity organization Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to help people combat COVID-19.
Suga debuted as a BTS member in 2013 with the album "2 COOL 4 SKOOL." BTS is the first K-pop act that has earned a nomination from the Grammys, one of the most prestigious music awards in the world. The seven-piece act is set to perform at the event on March 14 (U.S. time.)
