VIDEO Plus-size comedian flaunts rare swimsuit body for a reason

“Plus-size” comedienne Lee Young-ja revealed Monday that she had shown herself in a swimsuit to combat social prejudice.

Lee showed a photo of herself in a swimsuit on OLIVE's food show “Food Bless You” on Aug. 9.

“I was a hot-topic issue after my photo in a swimsuit was shown to the public,” Lee said on KBS 2TV “Hello Counselor.” “People said I was confident, but that is not true.”

She added, “I do not think I am in very good shape ― but I am fighting against social biases and to prop up my self-esteem. I wore swimwear to show what I am.”

Other hosts and panelists gave her a round of applause.

Kim Tae-gyun, one of hosts, said, “You looked beautiful in a swimsuit.”

Lee, who debuted in 1991, is appearing on a variety of shows including MBC's “Omniscient Interfering View.” She is enjoying another heyday these days thanks to her “list of decent restaurants.”
