South Korean actress and model Song Yu-jung, represented by one of Korea's top agencies, died on Jan. 23. She was 26.

Sublime Artist Agency released a statement announcing her passing on Monday, stating that her funeral at Seoul Medical Center's Gangnam branch was carried out quietly and without media exposure according to the wishes of her family members. She was buried at a cemetery in Seoul's Seocho District on Monday.

The exact cause of her death remains unknown as of Tuesday, but a source personally linked to her said, "It seems she took her own life," according to the Chosun Ilbo. The source said it wasn't clear what exactly could have led her to take her own life, but she was very concerned about her career not taking off. The source added that Song talked about difficulties making a living, which might have been affected by her intermittent professional activities.

She was anticipated to receive broader media exposure and a more active career after moving to Sublime Artist Agency in 2019, which also represents Song Kang-ho from "Parasite" (2019), singer and actor Jung Ji-hoon, better known by his stage name Rain, and other well-known celebrities in South Korea.

After debuting in 2013 as a model for cosmetic brand Estee Lauder, she was selected for six other domestic commercials with other companies. She began acting in the same year and worked on four TV dramas, playing the female lead in her most recent role in the online-only web drama, "To My Name," in 2019.
