The cast for BTS-universe drama "Youth" has been confirmed.
Actors Seo Ji-hoon, Noh Jong-hyun, Ahn Ji-ho, Seo Young-joo, Kim Yoon-woo and Jeon Jin-seo will play BTS's Kim Seok-jin (Jin), Min Yoon-gi (Suga), Jung Ho-seok (j-hope), Kim Nam-joon (RM), Park Ji-min (Jimin), Kim Tae-hyung (V) and Jeon Jung-kook (Jungkook), respectively, according to drama production company Chorokbaem Media Monday.
"Youth" tells how the seven boys grow into men through their struggles. The actors use the names of BTS members, but the drama contains many fictional elements.
It is based on the worldview of BTS's 2015-16 trilogy album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Trilogy" ― also known as the "Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa Series." For the album, the BTS members played fictional characters to display how young people stand the test of reality and, in the end, meet the most wonderful moment.
Kim Jae-hong, who was behind the success of TV series including "A Wife Next Door" (2013) and "Yoo Na's Street" (2014), will direct the show, with Kim Soo-jin and Choi Woo-joo penning the script.
"We should portray the reality the members faced early and how their mentality changed over time. Our understanding about each character, the actors' performance and chemistry among them are all critical," the production team said in a statement. "Please look forward to the rookie actors."
But not all fans are looking forward to the show. Some say using the BTS members' real names may confuse viewers and could tarnish the group's image.
"Youth" will premiere next year.
