"Romantic" is the best adjective to depict K-pop boy band GOT7's upcoming release "DYE," which will hit shelves Monday afternoon. This time, the seven-piece act ― comprising Mark, JB, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom ― travels back to the Middle Ages and exhibits its unexploited romanticism.
"The album epitomizes a permanent pledge of love," front man JB said in an email Q&A, Monday. "It can be seen as an extension to our previous release 'You Calling My Name (2019),' but is more mournful and powerful."
Yugyeom added, "The listeners will feel like they are reading a classical novel as they appreciate the numbers, because the songs allow them to view love in diverse perspectives."
"DYE" fronts the lead track "NOT BY THE MOON," inspired by English poet/playwright William Shakespeare (1564-1616)'s romantic tragedy "Romeo and Juliet." It is a tale of two star-crossed lovers in 16th century Italy.
Founder of GOT7's agency JYP Entertainment, Park Jin-young, took part in the creative process of the groovy number.
"My favorite line is: 'Don't swear by the moon, which is always changing,'" Yugyeom said. It is believed to allude to Act 2 of "Romeo and Juliet."
"I was surprised by the lyrics at first because they portray the moon as an ever-changing medium," JB said.
Jackson from Hong Kong said he was thrilled to be part of something different.
"The song is distinctive from our previous releases," he said. "We will be able to show a compelling performance."
JB also asked people to pay attention on the visual aspects of the septet. He said the members tried long hair and put on the classical costumes.
"I play a prince in the music video," Jackson said.
Youngjae offered a sneak peek into the video, saying, "We focused on the choreography, visuals and all the other aspects to display what we have."
The seven stars are set to live-stream their album showcase "GOT7 LIVE PREIMIERE" at 8 p.m. (KST) Monday on Naver V LIVE.
