American actor and music producer Chris Lyon has featured in a video to introduce Korea's preventive measures against the coronavirus (COVID-19) in his mother tongue.
The clip of Lyon, who appeared in JTBC's popular series "Itaewon Class," was uploaded on the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's YouTube channel, Thursday.
"The first thing to do is to make sure you wash your hands often for more than 30 seconds," he says on the clip. He then recommends people sing the ABC (alphabet) song to fill the time while cleaning their hands.
"Whenever we go to medical facilities, make sure we're wearing masks," he says, showing people the proper way to put on the protective gear.
"I know in a lot of other countries, people see someone wearing a mask and they tend to think that they're sick. But actually in Korea, people tend to use wearing a mask wherever they go as a preventive measure. And, by any chance if we don't have a mask, make sure you're coughing into your arm sleeves."
"And also, we want to make sure that we're keeping our hands away from our face. It is also important that when we're talking to doctors about our travel history, we want to be very transparent. And don't leave out the small details," Lyon says.
The actor-cum-music producer added: "In Korea, we're trying to emphasize the importance of distancing as a community. So I'm trying to practice as much as I can, too, and that means staying away from clubs, pubs, places of worship, gyms."
As of Friday, Korea had 10,062 confirmed cases of the virus and 174 deaths.
Lyon made his name here after playing Toni in "Itaewon Class." Toni was a half-Korean, half-Guinean restaurant worker.
