K-pop artist Taeyeon postponed the release of the single “Birthday” ― on her birthday March 9 ― after the tragic death of her father on the day.
The singer's agency SM Entertainment announced the news on her official fan page.
“Taeyeon is going through a sorrowful time because of her father's death,” it said. “Please send her warm messages of condolence.”
The agency told local news outlets that the artist's father died from a heart attack. “The funeral will be held privately with family members,” it said.
Taeyeon was supposed to release the new song at 6 p.m. on her 31st birthday and to stream a live performance. The song's new release date has not been determined.
Taeyeon, who is also a member of K-pop group Girls' Generation, began her solo act in 2015. She has been releasing albums as a solo artist and as the group since and featuring on various soundtracks for films and TV dramas, such as “Hotel Del Luna” (2019).
