Three Korean contemporary dance companies performed at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary, Monday (local time).
Melancholy Dance Company, Noname Sosu and Ambiguous Dance Company presented performances during the Korean Night at the Fidelio Theatre and Dance Tent, getting abreast of this year's headliners Dua Lipa and Kendrick Lamar.
The festival is one of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe, known for attracting over 500,000 visitors a year with around 1,000 artists performing.
Melancholy Dance Company presented "Flight," choreographed by Jeong Cheol-in at 8 p.m. The dance depicts how two people help each other to achieve an impeccable flight. Noname Sosu performed "Silentum" by Choi Young-hyun, which portrays soundlessness after a long struggle with oneself.
Ambiguous Dance Company's "Body Concert" is a dynamic and engaging performance which challenges the limits of the human body.
The event was supported by Arts Council Korea (ARKO) in cooperation with the Seoul International Dance Festival (SIDance) and HOTPOT: East Asia Dance Platform.
The International Dance Council (CID) UNESCO Korea said the festival's program director Jozsef Kardos invited the three troupes. Kardos attended HOTPOT, a new platform introducing Asian dance pieces, co-organized earlier this year by Korea's SIDance, Hong Kong's City Contemporary Dance Festival and Yokohama Dance Collection, and was fascinated by the Korean choreographers' works.
The second HOTPOT will be held during the 21st SIDance, which will be held in Seoul from Oct. 7 to 13.
