His enlistment will take place at an army boot camp in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, and he will serve for 21 months.
All able-bodied South Korean men must serve in the military for about two years, a legacy of the Korean War that ended in 1953 in a truce, not a peace treaty.
With his hair cut short like a crew cut, G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, appeared at the opening ceremony of a cafe belonging to his agency YG Entertainment on Jeju Island on Sunday. YG Chairman Yang Hyun-suk and YG Food President Roh Hee-young attended the event.
"I'm joining the army soon," G-Dragon said. "I hope everything will go well and Happy New Year."
