‘Saturday Performance of Korean Music & Dance'

The National Gugak Center continues to feature Korean music and dance performances every Saturday.
For over 30 years, the National Gugak Center has provided audiences with traditional music and dance performances every Saturday. This year, the center aims to present a more profound experience of traditional Korean performing arts, through programs such as "Listening to Traditional Korean Music in Depth" and "Traditional Korean Singing and Dancing Performance for the Enthusiasts." In addition, starting this year, the performances will be staged at the newly renovated Umyeondang Theater, which is designed to convey traditional sounds to audiences without using any speakers or microphones.

Savina Museum is presenting Terry Border’s artwork until Dec. 30. Border is an American artist and a character maker who uses wires to create personified characters by attaching limbs to foods and everyday objects. Border also uses his own experience and various stories related to objects and delivers dramas through visual storytelling. In the process, he employs black humor as an effective device to address the absurdity of life or to ask fundamental questions about human existence.
This exhibition is composed not only of representative photographs by Border, but also his objects, animations and films to further reveal his art world.

D Museum presents “PLASTIC FANTASTIC,” a unique exhibition showcasing designs born from the artistic imagination of international designers and the unlimited possibilities of plastic, until March 4, 2018. PLASTIC FANTASTIC illustrates the magical journey of plastic, the substance sometimes described as the 20th century's miracle material, as it entered the public realm and brought such wide-ranging transformations to everyday life. The exhibition offers an overview of more than 2,700 products, furniture pieces, lights, graphic designs and photographs produced over the past half-century via the individuality and innovative spirit of around 40 international creators.

‘Tomas Saraceno: Our Interplanetary Bodies’
Asia Culture Center

The Asia Culture Center is hosting acclaimed Argentinean artist Tomas Saraceno’s newly commissioned solo exhibition “Our Interplanetary Bodies” until March 25, 2018.
Saraceno is internationally renowned for his intense collaboration with aerospace engineers and physicists, using research into astrophysics and thermodynamics, as well as the structures of spider webs which visualize social and ecological issues.
The exhibition is composed of nine gigantic, spherical sculptures emitting subtle light. Also a large-scale video projection displays the real-time movement of cosmic dust in the air, while a sound system transforms this movement into an audio-spatial experience. The audience will have an opportunity to become a part of the cosmic web by watching cosmic dust and wandering amidst the monumental sculptures.

‘Nude: Masterpieces from Tate’

SOMA museum is holding the special exhibition "Nude: Masterpieces from Tate," which showcases over 100 major representations of nudes, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and prints by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Louise Bourgeois and Sarah Lucas. Each artist in the exhibition offers a different way of looking at the human body. They show how the nude in art has persisted yet changed, shifting shape and acquiring new meanings in the hands of successive generations, from the idealizing painters of the Victorian era to the artist-provocateurs of our time. At the heart of the show lies the world's most famous image of erotic love, Auguste Rodin's sculpture "The Kiss." Never before has this work from the Tate collection left Europe.

‘Tinga Tinga: Let’s Be Happy’

Works of contemporary African artists will be exhibited at Insa 1-gil Culture Space until Jan. 28, 2018. Tinga Tinga is a painting style developed in Africa named after its founder, Tanzanian painter Edward Said Tingatinga. Tingatinga paintings are known for their brilliant and highly saturated color. They also can be described as naive and caricatural, similar to those of famous American artist Keith Haring, who was influenced by Tinga Tinga artists.
Paintings of 21 modern African artists, including Tingatinga, George Lilanga and his grandson Hendrik Lilanga, Zuberi Daimu and Ndoye Douts will be presented at this exhibition “Tinga Tinga: Let’s Be Happy.”

‘The Art of the Brick’

“The Art of the Brick” is a global touring exhibition rated by CNN as one of the world’s “Must See Exhibitions.” These are the first art exhibitions to focus exclusively on the use of LEGO bricks as an art medium and artist Nathan Sawaya has taken it to new heights.
This exhibition has countless colorful LEGO pieces which Sawaya, an award-winning artist, has transformed into whimsical and awe-inspiring creations. Sawaya’s ability to transform this common toy into something meaningful, his devotion to spatial perfection and the way he conceptualizes action, enables him to elevate what almost every child has played with into the status of contemporary art.
The exhibition will commence at Ara Art Center on Oct. 5 and conclude on Feb. 4, 2018.

‘ALICE: Into The Rabbit Hole'

"ALICE: Into The Rabbit Hole" will be exhibited for the first time at the Seoul Forest Galleria Foret The Seouliteum until March 1, 2018. The exhibition shows a contemporary perspective of Lewis Carroll's 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” in the form of a 3D theme park. Twenty-three teams, including illustrators, musicians and kitsch installers, participated in creating the "Alice" and "Wonderland" of this exhibition, which offers visitors a fun and exciting experience to escape their rigid daily lives.
Alice's extraordinary adventure is presented in four separated sections, such as "Intro," "Rabbit Hole," "Welcome to Wonderland" and "Alice's Dream." There is also an interactive zone that uses characters and episodes featured in the original novel.

‘National Geographic’s Photo Ark’
War Memorial Special Exhibition Hall
War Memorial Special Exhibition Hall is hosting “National Geographic’s Photo Ark” until March 4, 2018. The exhibition aims to raise awareness for many species in need of greater conservation. As Joel Satore, National Geographic photographer and speaker, once said, “Today we're losing species at rates 1,000 times greater than ever before. This is the best time ever to save species because so many need our help.” Satore founded Photo Ark in 2005, as a project to document species before they disappear. So far, he has visited more than 40 countries, and some photographs he took of 7,000 endangered species are on display at this special exhibition.
The exhibition will feature large-format prints, as well as a grid of many more images to highlight the range of species in the Photo Ark. Visitors are encouraged to take selfies with these impressive portraits and share them on social media to show their support.

‘Da Vinci Alive’
Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpieces are now being exhibited in the most comprehensive way at the War Memorial Special Exhibition Hall until March 4, 2018. “Da Vinci Alive” redefines the traditional approach toward da Vinci’s works by combining machine inventions and interactive activities with cutting-edge cinematic technology.
Utilizing Grande Exhibition’s SENSORY4 system, this unique exhibition allows more than 3,000 images of Da Vinci’s works to be synchronized to a musical score and projected onto giant screens, walls, columns and even the floor. Images zoom in and out of fine detail, drawing attention to key features and allowing the audience to study colors and techniques Da Vinci used. Photographs and videos are displayed side by side with Da Vinci’s works to demonstrate his sources of inspiration.

The experience musical created by British writer and illustrator Anthony Browne will be staged at Shinhan Card FAN Square Dream Hall until Dec. 3. Sensible and educational stories for children are introduced in the form of performances and hands-on activities in this musical.
The musical features the story of Toby, and his adventure into the world of mirrors while searching for his missing father with the help of Willy. At Fan Square Dream Hall, there is also a library and a gallery in which audiences can enjoy Anthony Browne’s stories and paintings.
